WHAT IS CUB SCOUTS?

Cub Scouts is a program of Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America), offering citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership for youth in kindergarten to 5th grade. The Cub Scout program is about encouraging boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience – no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

WHAT IS CUB SCOUTS LIKE AT SHADY GROVE?

Pack 95 at Shady Grove is a family-centered Pack offering all youth in kindergarten to 5th grade the opportunity to participate in the same program. We hold weekly meetings on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at the Shady Grove Community Center, 2100 Buchanan Trail East, Shady Grove, PA, from August to April, and monthly summertime pack-tivities. Parents and siblings are welcome to stay during the meetings and participate in some of the activities. Discover more about our Pack and program below!

Cub Scouts can adventure nearby with day activities  with the entire Pack or just their Den – grade based groups – the whole year ’round. These include hiking, cave exploration, fishing trips, Pinewood Derby races, roller skating, bowling, and visiting nearby farms and local parks, among other opportunities. They also have the opportunity for community outreach through visiting retirement centers and providing a color guard during flag ceremonies. These activities are designed to allow the Scouts to have fun while building friendships and putting the basic Scouting principles they learn during weekly Den meetings to use.

From August to April, the Pack holds weekly meetings . The Pack is broken into Dens that are lead by trained adult leaders – Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders – with the assistance of older youth in the role of Den Chiefs that are provided by the Scouts BSA troops. The Dens meet for generally an hour a week, and teach the Scouts age-appropriate skills that prepare them for their journey in Scouting and life.

Lions (kindergarten) introduce the youngest Scouts to the Scouting program by discovering nature, developing character, building confidence, making new friends, and having fun on their adventure.

Tigers (first grade) learn more about nature by exploring outdoors, while developing a sense of responsibility, and building confidence and self-esteem. They complete a series of adventures that will not only provide valuable learning experiences, but are fun too!

Wolves (second grade) expand their communication skills and their abilities to work together as a team while hiking, playing games, and learning about duty to our country.

Bears (third grade) is where Scouting really ramps up with camping, teaching pocketknife safety, learning basic woodworking skills, and learning about wildlife.

Webelos (fourth grade) stands for “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts”. Webelos start the transition towards Scouts BSA by learning personal responsibility, additional outdoor skills, going on outdoor adventures, and having fun.

Arrow of Lights (fifth grade) prepares Cub Scouts for the experiences they’ll have when they cross over to Scouts BSA. AOLs cross over to Scouts BSA in the first quarter of the calendar year.

Camping isn’t just a summertime activity with the Pack. Throughout the year there are several camping trips that include standard tent camping during the spring, summer and fall, cabin camping during the winter, and an annual weekend lock-in while the weather is still cool. Activities take place during each of the camping trips to keep Scouts engaged in creating memories that will last a lifetime.

There’s also an opportunity for Scouts to attend an extended summer camp experience with their fellow Pack members at either a unit-led campout, district-led day camp, or council-led camp.

IS THERE A COST TO JOIN CUB SCOUTS?

Kindergarten through fifth grade-aged children who join Shady Grove Pack 95 have lots of fun to look forward to within the Den, Pack, and the Scouting program. The Pack does fundraising throughout the year to allow its Scouts the ability to take part in the unit-led program, weekend camping trips, and daytrips with minimal to no additional cost to the Scout beyond the annual registration fee* of $91, which covers a full year of membership in Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) from the date of purchase. Participation in district and council level activities are also available to members of the Pack, and are paid for by each participant. If cost is a concern, please contact the Pack’s Cubmaster at the button at either the top or bottom of the page.

By being a member, children can take part in all the fun activities and growth opportunities Scouting has to offer. Will you join us on our next adventure?

*Registration fees are subject to change.
